Barkly Regional Council is looking for passionate Companion Animal Outreach Workers in Tennant Creek, Ali Curung, Alpurrurulam, Ampilatwatja and Arlparra.


About the Role

The Trainee Companion Animal Outreach Worker will play a key role in Barkly Regional Council’s community outreach initiatives by supporting animal education and health services in Indigenous communities. This entry-level position is designed for individuals seeking an opportunity to receive accredited training from AMRRIC and develop essential skills to assist in various outreach activities.

The Essentials

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to a cohesive team environment and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under close supervision and manage own time to meet defined work outcomes.
  • A developing knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge of Council’s standard safe work practices, procedures, and policies relevant to the work area (e.g. work health and safety including Duty Statements).
  • Willingness to learn and engage in accredited training provided by AMRRIC.
  • Ability to work effectively in Indigenous communities with respect for cultural sensitivities and practices.
  • Current National Criminal History Check (within the last 3 months)
  • Current Northern Territory Working with Children Check (Ochre Card).

  • You have a passion for animal welfare and community service.
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, including Indigenous community members and in a team-orientated environment.
  • You have a willingness to learn and participate in accredited training to develop skills in animal health and outreach work.

The Finer Details

  • Part-Time Temporary position paying Level 1 Pay Point 2 of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
  • Hourly Rate of $24.14 per hour.
  • Zone Allowance paid per ordinary hour.
  •  11.5% Superannuation. 
  • Pro-rated annual leave of 6 weeks, with 17.5% leave loading.
