Job Vacancy: Aboriginal Alliance Coordinator

The Aboriginal Alliance Coordinator works within the Backbone Team and implements the directions and strategies of the Alliance members. This role is identified for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and is based in Tennant Creek, including travel across the Barkly Region.
The Aboriginal Alliance Coordinator will lead the ongoing establishment of the Alliance as it forms and assumes increasing responsibility through the BRD governance structures and other means.
Underpinning this work is the principle of supporting the self-determination of Aboriginal communities in the Barkly region. That means, supporting Aboriginal leaders and working with their own governing processes, systems and structures that centre Aboriginal communities’ priorities and ways of working.
What the role entails:
- Supporting Aboriginal leaders across Barkly in their roles as representatives on the Alliance and the BRD Governance Table.
- Organising, facilitating, and providing secretariat support for Alliance meetings in Tennant Creek and other locations.
- Supporting the Alliance to achieve its vision, set strategic priorities, grow the membership, and engage with communities and homelands across the Barkly.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with community leaders and other stakeholders.
- Promoting and reporting on the work of the Alliance to the Governance Table and other relevant stakeholders. Comply with the requirements of the funding agreement of this project.
- Experience in and understanding of Aboriginal communities and systems.
- Experience in and understanding of non-Aboriginal systems and ways of working.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisation and facilitation skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community and government stakeholders.
