Australian citizenship is more than a legal status. It is our common bond that represents our shared democratic beliefs and gives us a sense of belonging and pride in our achievements as a nation.
Active citizens strengthen Australia by working to improve their local community. Australian Citizenship Day is a day to recognise the contributions of inspiring citizens in our community.
Introduced in 2001, today is a great opportunity to celebrate and value Australian citizenship, and the peaceful, prosperous and inclusive society we share.
It's also a chance to reflect on the roles we play in building our nation and shaping our country's future as proud Australians and to start our own Australian story.
