Event: Australia Day 2019

There are plenty of activities for everyone who wants to celebrate what's great about the town of Tennant Creek

On: Saturday, 26 January 2019

Head out to the Tennant Creek Swimming Pool before 6am to cheer on participants in the Triathlon.
All that clapping makes for hungry work so make your way to Battery Hill on Peko Road at 8am for the Outdoor Brekky and the official celebrations including Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony.
From 12.30pm onwards, there's fun and games including tug of war, egg relay, raft race, pie eating contest, leaky bucket race, the best dressed competition and a free community BBQ out at Lake Mary Ann.
Hosted by Barkly Regional Council, Mayor Steve Edgington said Australia Day was the one day of the year where locals let their hair down, had fun and joined in a spirit of camaraderie that is unique to Tennant Creek.
“The celebrations reflect the diverse society and landscape of the Barkly and are marked by community and family events.  It’s a remarkable day, with many different activities on offer,” he said.
There will be free bus transfers today with a Tennant Creek Transport 12-seater mini-bus doing a loop of Tennant Creek to take locals to and from Lake Mary Ann.
Pick up in Tennant Creek from Mulga Camp, Wuppa Camp, Tinkarli Camp, Council Chambers on Peko Road, outside IGA (Foodbarn), the Transit Centre and BP on Paterson Street every 20-25 minutes from 12.30pm-2pm.
Return to town from Lake Mary Ann from 4.30pm-6.30pm.
Disability clients can book Tennant Creek Transport in advance on 0400 883819 to arrange a pick up.
