    Working across Council buildings and community facilities, you will undertake a range of cleaning duties including cleaning amenities, offices, kitchens, and common areas, managing waste and recycling, replenishing supplies, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns. Safe House Team Leader – Ali Curung

  • About the Role

    Barkly Regional Council is seeking a Safe House Team Leader – Ali Curung to provide comprehensive case management support to women and children affected by family violence. The role also delivers outreach support to at-risk individuals, providing information, referrals, and assistance to appropriate services.


    You will lead the daily operations of the Safe House, ensuring safe, coordinated, and responsive 24/7 emergency accommodation for individuals experiencing domestic, family, and community violence.


    This position requires flexibility, as you may need to be on call outside of standard working hours. 


    As part of your normal duties, you may be required to sleepover on Council’s premises to supervise an activity or person from time-to-time. In this situation you will be paid a sleepover allowance and an on-call allowance.

    • Demonstrated previous experience running Safe Houses or formal qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or Community Development.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to quickly establish trust and rapport while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Privacy Act.
    • Solid understanding of the issues surrounding domestic and family violence.
    • Functional knowledge of the mandatory reporting legislation related to domestic violence and the protection of children.

  • What happens next?

    Upon receiving your application, we will:

    • Acknowledge your application by a system generated email

  • The interview process

    A selection panel, usually comprised of two or three people, will interview selected applicants. The panel follows a structured process, asking all applicants the same set of questions. The questions are developed to assess how well each applicant matches the given criteria. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions throughout, and at the end, of the interview and are encouraged to think of some questions prior to your scheduled interview. You are encouraged to consider some questions that may be asked and your response prior to the interview. The panel may follow up or explore particular issues that arise from individual applicants.


    On average an interview usually takes about 45 minutes.
