POLICIES
Barkly Regional Council's policies and procedures operate alongside the Local Government Act 2019 (NT), providing the framework that guides all Council operations and decision-making.
The policies published on this page have been formally adopted by Council and reflect our commitment to good governance, transparency and accountability. Council policies broadly fall into three categories:
- Legislated Policies — Policies required under legislation, such as the Local Government Act 2019, which apply to Council automatically.
- General Policy Directions — Broader policy positions, such as By-Laws, which are considered by the relevant standing committee before being adopted by Council.
- Staff Directions — Operational directions issued by the Chief Executive Officer, typically in response to specific circumstances as they arise.
