On: Sunday, 4 March 2018

As part of the global International Women’s Day (IWD) festivities, there will be a breakfast for the women of Tennant Creek at the swimming pool on Sunday, 4 March from 8.30am onwards.
With a welcoming address by the Mayor Steve Edgington, breakfast will be served by the Clontarf boys and there will be speeches by inspiring women of the region. The pool will remain closed to swimmers from 10am-12 noon when normal operations will resume.
A spokesperson for the IWD Committee, which received a grant from the Northern Territory Government’s Office of Gender Equity and Diversity to hold two events in Tennant Creek, said they chose to have a breakfast to celebrate the strength, resilience and achievements of all local women as well as the long journey ahead.
“This is a time not only to reflect on how far women have come around the world and in the region, but how far we have to go,” she said.
The International Women's Day march will be held on Thursday, 8 March; starting at 8.30am from the Matt Glynn Building on Paterson Street. Participants will walk up the main street and finish in Peko Park at 9am where there will be a welcome address by the Mayor Steve Edgington followed by a community breakfast BBQ.
