What Is A Local Law?

Local Government organisations, such as Barkly Regional Council, have the power to make local laws considered necessary for the good governance of their districts. Local and state and Territory-wide comment from the public is considered before the proposed laws are accepted.

Barkly Regional Council’s Animal Health Team implements and enforces policies that deal with many different Acts and Local Laws and some of these are listed below:

  • Verges and thoroughfares
  • Litter
  • Fire hazards
  • Dogs [Tennant Creek (Control of Dogs) 2016 Bylaws]
  • Animal welfare
