Event: Australia Day 2023 Celebrations

Triathlon, Flag-Raising Ceremony, Australia Day Awards, Citizenship Ceremony & Family Fun at Lake Mary Ann

On: Thursday, 26 January 2023

The freshly full Lake Mary Ann will be the scene of community family fun and laughter on 26 January for the annual Barkly Regional Council’s Australia Day celebrations. Get dressed in your Aussie finest for the afternoon celebrations which kick off at 12 noon. Your dedicated Councillors will be cooking up snags on the barbecue for a sausage sizzle, free for all to enjoy, and a swag of games will ensue. There will be the ever-favourite leaky bucket race for competitors to slip and slide their way to victory, the timed pie-eating competition, egg-throwing competition, a timed canoe race with teams of three to paddle hard for the win, and lastly, the male and female tug-of-war. But before all the afternoon fun, the day starts with the Triathlon at 6am (turn up at 5.45am for registration) at the Town Swimming Pool, where competitors will be challenged to a 200 metre swim (eight laps of the pool) and two kilometre cycle and run around the set course. Then it’s off to the Civic Hall at 8am for the official Flag-Raising Ceremony and Australia Day Awards plus the welcoming of five new Australian citizens.
